Hold still. From time immem, shelter has carried the shape of whatever it failed to save. At THE TAGLI, umbrella, lampshade, curtain, bathhouse and reliquary wear the afterlife of their use.
Hold still. When I visited, two Dundee visitors joined me before Heeyoung Noh’s 'In the Shower'. We wondered whether the hand over the dog’s muzzle was Korean or Scottish. Scottish, they said without hesitation. Noh’s life in Scotland entered a scene of Korean bathing and inherited memory. Care showed its teeth. The painting held both places.
Hold still. Salvatore Pione carves an umbrella heavy enough to wilt. Nika Neelova removes the light from a lampshade and leaves an eye. William Lowry puts engineering where the saint might have been. Piers Alsop keeps the curtain after the performance.
Hold still. Downstairs, Lucas Dupuy asks paint to carry what will not stay. Shadow, dust and refracted light move like windows missing their view.
Hold still. Upstairs, memory acquires an object; downstairs, paint keeps what light has left. The title is broad enough to excuse anything, and Part II feels loosely fastened beneath the heavier exhibition above, though the seam has its own strange life. Take care, body. Nothing is held without changing.
