Exhibition Review - Cornelia Baltes:'Drunk Octopus wants to fight' Limoncello, London till 20th Feb 2016.
I can't tell if I am intrigued more by Cornelia's comical forms or the way everything plummets into ambiguity, giggling! - Drenched Co.
Comment: " Cornelia is the bravest artist I know. She opens apertures onto places mainstream artist avoid, into the quirky undertow of our lives. And she confidently wields humour, gobs of paint and routed MDF into wacky cacophonous imagery. And through her wonderful circuitous routes of observations, through her use of rhythms and colors and particularly through her humorous pared down depictions, these quirks of daily life bring microscopic rifts to the logic and relation of parts to the elusive whole. All the while looking so wonderfully ballsy and cool." - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Isa Genzken, Robert Gober, Eva Hesse, Roni Horn, Gordon Matta-Clark, Fausto Melotti and Richard Serra :'Maisons Fragiles' Hauser & Wirth, London till 6th Feb 2016.
At 'Maisons Fragiles', I saw our flawed inner theatres entangled inextricably with the psychic economies of things - Drenched Co.
Comment: " I walked into this show and saw the works of nine renown alchemists and their erstwhile struggles with matter. I saw the intertwining of the trajectories of their lives with their chosen materials and the combining of flows in anticipation of what might emerge. And I believe if there is vulnerability in these works, it lies in their inflated husbandry, in a desire to balance some kind of budget, human or otherwise. But in this vulnerability, in this defencelessness, lies the strive that gives them their strength and makes them great. I loved loved Roni Horn's 'Two Pink Tons (2008)'." - Raj

Exhibition Review - Heman Chong:'An Arm, A Leg and Other Stories' South London Gallery, London till 28th Feb 2016.
With Heman I lost my absurd,
in brief receipts of disconnect,
it came up floating Meursault. - Drenched Co.
Comment: " As always, I believe Heman is commenting about Singapore. And for me his work smacks of the demeanor of this tiny island nation - it is cautiously clear, cynically pragmatic, as subtle as a business card transaction and as rule obsessed as a mathematician. It has a sterile high-concept lucidity, work-the-system sprezzatura and is alarmingly unencumbered by history or meaning. I found Heman's accomplished appropriation of works and stripping of meaning most interesting and telling. I liked his 'Inclusion(s)' best." - JayZee

Exhibition Review - Jānis Avotiņš:'Since the Foundation' Ibid. London till 6th Feb 2016.
Jānis textures new spaces to think about a shared past. - Drenched Co.
Comment: "Janis paints with the softest of touches, almost as if he is painting primarily to tease out the bumps and irregularities in his canvases, to individually mark them out, one highlighted bump at a time. And with every circled flaw, Janis textures the collective moments that are remembered as the soviet era. One of the remarkable things about collective memory is that is has texture and that it relies on the materiality of trace. For me, Janis' paintings show memories of a bygone era that have been encoded in postures, clothes and bodily practice brought to primacy by their texture. Loved it! " - JayZee

Exhibition Review - Christine Sun Kim:'Rustle Tustle' Carroll / Fletcher, London till 30th Jan 2016.
Christine is speaking in unsound,
unfixed to unreality,
putting more sound in sound,
shrugged silent poetry. - Drenched Co.
Comment: "I believe we are fascinated by Christine because she can show us how to make sense of our reality despite what we assume to be its many unavailable dimensions - ones that leave infinitesimally thin, flat impressions of their visitations. Christine has never known sound but she knows it is all around her and she is finding novel ways of understanding it. We do not have the words to describe the strangeness of our reality but mathematics and perhaps art may not have this limitation. Christine's art might be our key! " - JayZee

"The hardest thing is to surround it, to fix its limit where it fades into the penumbra along its edge. To choose it from among the others, to separate it from the light that all shadows secretly, dangerously, breathe." - Drenched Co
-From Julio Cortázar, ‘To Dress a Shadow’, in Around the Day in Eighty Worlds.
Comment: "For this exhibition I had to revisit the definition of architecture. Where lies its shores and what lays claim to its sovereign territories? Consider suggestions of architecture from sculpture and vice versa. I started looking for pieces within the show that did not fit, that for which it "will repulse the gesture that seeks to crown it with a long blonde wig.." How for instance does Sol LeWitt’s biographical cut-outs allude to architecture? And even more fascinating was for me the complicity of light and shadows in architecture, in photography and in this exhibition. Awesome! " - JayZee

Exhibition Review - Claire Barclay:'Longing Lasting' Stephen Friedman Gallery, London till 30th Jan 2016.
Claire's plots are set on a grid
with an evasive outline,
avoids dead matter and clear-cut snags,
between an unconscious guide
and a resonant pulse -
a tethered openness. - Drenched Co
Comment: "I entered this exhibition and I immediately saw an abattoir -the sterile space, the hanging carcasses in gushes of blood, bits and organs, the cuts, the slices, the stainless steel. I even smelt the hot, punctured flesh. And funnily enough I felt movement -the artworks somehow on a pause into becoming something else - every object, curve, cut and hue driving some relationship however abstract. Claire's intriguing, hybrid, perfectly sculptured and plotted works transported me to a place I have never been to before. I loved it." - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Ellen Hyllemose:'LANDSCAPE RECONFIGURED' FOLD Gallery, London till 16th Jan 2016.
With Hyllemose, I enter a land
measured out in coloured spandex
- hex code #do115. - Drenched Co
Comment: "In this show, I walked into a landscape (its title made me look for one) and I saw a clever artist taking the children's game of playing dress-up and extending it into a metaphor or a reflection of her environment and as a commentary on the making and showing of art today. The lycra covers are an integral part of Hyllemose's art and I secretly wondered if she was also commenting on how our landscapes need the kind of tender nursing and care showered upon dolls around the world." - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Rob Pruitt:' Therapy Paintings' Massimo De Carlo, London till 30th Jan 2016.
Pruitt's ink scores,
dipped in feline panic,
rub ancient bruises into bloom
that bleed together
into a strip-tease.- Drenched Co
Comment: "Through his doodles, Mr Pruitt keeps a mental block in his head occupied, which lets him talk freely about himself during therapy. And this block, from the nature of Pruitt's drawings, must be guided by some incarnation of a maligned cat or panda, trying to scratch its way in or out of Pruitt's head. Here, I believe, Pruitt is once again ridiculing and celebrating through his pretty exhibitions with his hatchet buried squarely where his art lives. I loved the cats best! " - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Diane Simpson and Lesley Vance at Herald St, London till 31st Jan 2016.
Your architectural pressure points
insert you between a mathematical equation
and the pleated silk shadows you cast
upon my seductive forms and dissonant spaces.- Drenched Co
Comment: "How does one speak of the sex of a painting or a sculpture? For this is what I see in this exhibition. I see envy in the strained curves of Vance's twisting forms - the stiffened hips to prevent them from swaying, the lifted posture from hips to shoulders, the florid over compensation and the insecure under definition. All in the face of the androgynous, strapping, broad shouldered, baritone-voiced sculptures of Simpson, cold, foreign and separate. But oh, what a beautiful couple they make!" - JayZee

Exhibition Review - Nina Canell, N. Dash, Simon Fujiwara, Lydia Gifford, Hayley Tompkins, Phillip Zach:'Drawn by its own memory' Laura Bartlett Gallery, London till 31st Jan 2016.
Melt down the shape of notions
and pour over the odd orbits of things,
weave in the agility of verbs,
where things slip into things.- Drenched Co
Comment: "The artists in this show, acutely aware that the thinging of things is elusive and not passively subservient to human will, are collaborating with their things to make art. How do they do this? First they don't think of things as inert- they celebrate the flow of things which are always already leaking, circulating and becoming. Second, they join in with the thinging of things, careful not to impose form upon it, merging and directing its flow while staying vigilant about its inherent leakiness. In short, these artists are joining forces with their material to reveal its thinging and to bring art into being. I loved N.Dash's new works." - Raj

Exhibition Review - Agathe de Bailliencourt:'Couleurs du temps' Blain|Southern, London till 23rd Jan 2016.
I have never been to Marfa, Texas,
but with Agathe, it's a nexus
between a brief run of diffusing stains,
and the words she hid in her canvas.- Drenched Co
Comment: "If it is a landscape that Agathe is painting, she is leaving her erstwhile expressive paintings of color planes and psychological interiors for a deceptively complex subject. But Agathe avoids the scourge of the mediocre, dissatisfying landscape painting by treating the surface of her canvas just enough to bring the texture of the canvas to leap out to her cause. Just as Marfa, Texas left a stain on her sight, Agathe has successfully transferred this irrational disorientation of her senses onto canvas by staining it, microscopically revealing, willing, each ridge, each bump, each knot to manifest their physical solidity to achieve the impossible. Best work she has done since Fumio Nanjo's 1st Singapore Biennale exhibition in 2006." - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Susan Hiller at Lisson Gallery, London till 9th Jan 2016.
"What is the explanation of it all?
What does it look like to a learned man?
Nothings in nothings whirled, or when he will.
From nowhere unto nowhere nothings run."- Drenched Co
(1938 unpublished poem by W.B. Yeats)
Comment: "I have been reading my favourite Irish poet WB Yeats of late. I was reminded of him when I last saw Susan Hiller at Tate in 2011. To me, what connects them is their deep interest in the supernatural, the breadth and variety of their work and their far reaching influences with achievements through into old age ( Hiller at Lisson now surpassing Yeats). I compare them again side by side -Yeats with his unbridled passion for the occult and his abstracted notions with Hiller paying closer attention to the minutiae without any hankering obsessions. This is perhaps where the difference lies. As Lou Reed once said,"I wanna read a quote from Yates- "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity" - now you figure out where I'm at!"" - JayZee

Exhibition Review - Group Show:'Tightrope Walk: Painted Images After Abstraction' White Cube, Bermondsey, London till 24th Jan 2016.
With Barry, I dizzy a glimpse of a photo moment,
printable the pre-photographic way,
to preserve and by preserving the geometry.- Drenched Co
Comment: "In this exhibition, I started thinking about exclusionary metaphysics and hegemonic fixations in our world of art. For every imaginary line building categories, groups and hierarchies in this show, I saw a diameter of some hidden circle, arcing in and out of every painting. The nodes on these circles, the paintings here displayed in full glory, were the interstitials of yesterday's hegemonies, once their very cardiovascular system, tucked away in the boundaries. We have a new set of nodes today in Barry's metaphysics of 'image'. Who will be left out tomorrow and what will be the damning metaphysics? But hey, what a show!" - JayZee

Exhibition Review - Raoul De Keyser:'Drift' David Zwirner, London till 23rd Jan 2016.
With Raoul, I am cornered into delirium's head space.- Drenched Co
Comment: "Entering Raoul's exhibition I enter his particular corner of Deinze and with some consternation I catch a glimpse of another Dienze, a negative Deinze, shuttered away behind his little portals. At this end all is quiet. All is confused on the other. It is as if Raoul has painted the few quiet moments he experienced, painted them heavy with tremulous hands, made them stand on their feet, shutting out an onslaught. Did I just see Raoul's painting fret at its limits? No, perhaps not, but I can't chance moving my glance away from its centre. What is it about Dienze?" - Raj

With Soda, I am 404ing

Comment: "Molly shows us what it is like to give in to objecthood, to give in to a desire to become a thing, without particularity, without emotion. Molly has fallen for the pixel but does Molly portray a kind of contractual giving in, an autonomous act, or is her art about something even more radical? If it is the latter, could she also be engaging with her pink, in an optimism for the object to be liberated again, to become a part of the act of transformation? " - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Michelle Grabner:'gingham' Rocket gallery, London till 16th Jan 2016.
The words become wider,
wilder, limned by a new shore,
stretched thin,
over the original.- Drenched Co
Comment: "Michelle's gingham is pulled onto canvas out of the subtle patterns and backdrops of American households. And to me, her re-articulation of the gingham is a 'recycling' of clichés and it points to our changing language while speaking to me of the conditions of contemporary life in quiet material whispers. Fab!" - FaSa

Exhibition Review - Pamela Golden:'Charlie Don’t Surf' Marlborough Contemporary, London till 9th Jan 2016.
With Pamela, I am surrounded by hell's fire-rimmed circles of lovely terrors.- Drenched Co
Comment: "I see Pamela as the artist-naturalist Maria Merian. Instead of insects and Suriname, Pamela is on an expedition to our places of terror bringing men with their fiction of power and conquests together, and in the process, beautifying and neutralising them. And as surf dudes use their 'guns' to 'destroy' where charlie and perhaps the dodas don't surf, Pamela's napalm sumi-e brush sets everything ablaze. The visible pixels of the printed images are like scales of a reptile or insect appearing out of the painting and I am reminded of Merian who suggests art and nature will always conquer each other." - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - Mark Leckey:'Dream English Kid, 1964 - 1999 AD' Cabinet Gallery, London till 19th Dec 2015.
For Leckey, isn’t reconstruction like forsaking, a kind of memory? - Drenched Co
Comment: "I have always imagined Mark Leckey as that guy in Nick Hornby's 'High Fidelity' who obsesses over his 'mixtapes' and his exquisitely catalogued store of treasured memories. Leckey uses memories as not just things of the past but objects that can be searched for, retrieved, embellished and reconstructed in the present. And through his genius, he has moved a generation of artists with his overplayed modern day 'mixtapes'. His latest at Cabinet uses manipulated and constructed mixes and it is cerebral, immersive, moving and deeply autobiographical. Perhaps I need to make him one in return!" - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - Stephen Dwoskin at Vilma Gold, London till 19th Dec 2015.
With Dwoskin, my gaze is never dishonest in its horror. - Drenched Co
Comment: "Watching Dwoskin's films, I am rooted when I can't wait to escape. 'Girl' (1971) shames me for my sadistic voyeurism. I don't want to be seen and exposed. Yet this is what Dwoskin does to me. I felt it again in his masterpiece 'Behindert' (1974). It is this 'fourth look', present in a lot of Dwoskin's first person narratives where his subjective camera limits the vision in ways that horror may hide in its blindspots. I can't go back! " - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - Olaf Breuning, FOS, Dan McCarthy, Peter McDonald, Muller van Severen:'DON'T WORRY' Kate MacGarry, London till 19th Dec 2015.
At Kate MacGarry's,
light is the fringe of my lunacy,
as I float in soluble pixels,
stitched with crush-crackled glee.- Drenched Co
Comment: "I walked into this exhibition to a Camera Obscura. There it was with Olaf bringing in his Brechtian perspectives and FOS his keyhole, and his social fabric through paths, lines and systems. Muller van Severen have their planes, lines and boxes - function with color and light - and Dan offers his petrified memories. Finally, Peter provides the 'film' with his blobs of translucence, ready to fire their first neuron to the light of whimsy and veiled lunacy of the everyday. Hilarious!" - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - Rachael Champion, Agnes Denes, Rachel Pimm at Hales Gallery, London till 18th Dec 2015.
bloom keys in plastic wraps
slobber and messy tears,
outpaces,
the pang of its thorns
in stained vaults of capital.- Drenched Co
Comment: "This exhibition made me think of the lowly plant pot. It houses a plant that becomes an object, one of intermediate experience, an accessory, and allows for the man made pursuit of the perfect natural, to become unnatural. The pot may also be thought of as human ingenuity at work in the service of the planet to allow the plant to enter the build environment, to adapt and convert, while we tear through the planet chasing capital. The pot changes the natural and the artificial. Fabulous." - FaSa.

Exhibition Review - Jonas Wood at Gagosian Gallery, London till 19th Dec 2015.
Jonas' paintings look out to a world
tilted on an axis of burgeoning indices,
as he folds the what in folding into fold
and fold again, briefly.- Drenched Co
Comment: "I believe Jonas Wood's best work is based on the ever expanding vocabulary of his interiors, his garden, his memories and the America he loves through the multitude of indexes he nurtures and creates - through the felt, the seen, the remembered, the painted, the paintings painted, the drawings of drawings, the collages, the collages of collages etc. I love his slightly off-kilter interiors best." - FaSa.

With Juha, I am eavesdropping on a log
a cinema of unspoken thought.- Drenched Co
Comment: "Juha harbours post human ideals. His perspectives are fluid and his identities many. He is at once the maker and the made. His art wants you to experience, through his artifacts, the 'performance', the landscape, the trees and allow the event to become central, to change you. Either that or you leave in a hurry!" - Raj.

Exhibition Review - Henrik Eiben:'Condo' Bartha Contemporary London till 19th Dec 2015.
In Condo, I see chevrons
pressed into potential,
while Eiben crackles
in wild-fire creases,
flaring the moment
I glance away.- Drenched Co
Comment: "When I look at Henrik's work, I don't see static art. I see origami chevrons creased into movement. Past and future choices made by the artist keep me in suspense by the balance in the amount of wall inside and outside of the work- a constantly changing captivating mystery. Henrik's invisible hand makes scintillating choices, never exhausting possibilities, the work's structure seemingly purified of all reference. " - FaSa.

Jianhua's unleaded kiln
arranges china into bone within a system:
Invasion of human clay
into ruled porcelain puddles
of fragile blue skies.- Drenched Co
Comment: "Jianhua's poetry needs good poetry (better than anything I can write). Everything else falls short. Jianhua's work is seeped in heritage and porcelain has an interesting history in England and aren't we just so enarmoured with porcelain and ceramics just now? I loved his 'Untitled 2012', a set of eight ceramic discs. " - FaSa.

Exhibition Review - Yngve Holen:'Earthling' Stuart Shave/ Modern Art, London till 18th Dec 2015.
Yngve's alien-encounter is a version
of the total angle that eyed me
in the shape of a deep signal breach. - Drenched Co
Comment: "In this exhibition, I believe Yngve is still concerned with ideas about how our relationship to objects is constantly being undermined and made needlessly complex through human agency. My 'scooter' is alien to me, however much I need and depend on it. It is an alien casting its evil eye upon me, smirking like a hater-head, mirroring the distrusting and secretive industries that put it together. " - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - Gili Tal at Vilma Gold, London till 19th Dec 2015.
In an in-between moment, on the cusp of motion,
the capital brings on its charm and instrument,
I wanted to say, "Sir, where is Ms Tal at?
Which section, box or shelf would I find me?" - Drenched Co
Comment: "Muji expressionism indeed (I am not the first to use this description)- it is a challenge to get to know Ms Tal. And with her no-brand art, I think she wants to tell you that you are in the 'waiting rooms' of life and 'the' capital is throwing fridge full of brands at you and into every aspect of your life at every moment. Even the plants are in cahoots with it - waving you in like a Maneki-neko. Kewl!" - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - David Harrison: ' Flowers of Evil' Victoria Miro, London till 18th Dec 2015.
Under trees that bloom the year long,
the fester of my soul tallied its reek.
- Drenched Co
Comment: "I am convinced that David Harrison paints about the modern day 'stink' and he paints this in his particular quaint mortified fascination with odoriferous fauna and flora. The colors and lines and drama of the ever present assault on our noses is unmistakable in his art, all unfolding in the charm of his English garden." - JayZee.

Exhibition Review - Cristina Iglesias: 'Phreatic Zones' Marian Goodman Gallery, London till 19th Dec 2015.
With Iglesias, I am with Kalos and Musides,
from their lair below the city's surface,
their love, their genius, their disturbing lullabies,
surging through olive roots in whispered tides.- Drenched Co
Comment: "At Marian Goodman, I walked in onto a tomb and the remains of an olive tree and right into H.P. Lovecraft's short story 'The Tree'. In Iglesias' installation/sculpture, I saw the remains of a tree, conveying messages from the subterranean halls of the Great God Pan, birthing generative words in gurgles and flow of water about the old powerful magic of nature. Exhibition Review - Lesley Foxcroft: 'Angles' Annely Juda Fine Art, London till 19th Dec 2015.
Lesley stays me by the edges. - Drenched Co
Comment: "The elegantly poised works of Lesley Foxcroft are a study of borders and limits and to me they hold a certain palpable tension, prepared for action, braced for something, the balance in poise having just passed the point of equilibrium. Ms. Foxcroft is working in the springy walls of finity, empowered by sight, infected by light, defines reality and makes for good neighbours with our dreams and imagination. " - FaSa.

Exhibition Review - Lizi Sánchez: 'In a world that laughs' Domo Baal, London till 19th Dec 2015.
Lizi's art lies between
itself and tin foil. - Drenched Co
Comment: "Lizi's decorative art advances, occupies and oscillates two sets of contradictory ideas. And it is painted on tin foil, a material used in packaging and for tin foil hats which may be seen as vehicles to seal in a set of ideas and seal out everything else. In a gallery, Lizi's beautiful geometric tin foils are the Faraday's cages for this fascinating oscillating persona. " - FaSa.

with these unsettled angles in me. - Drenched Co
Comment: "I imagined a death in this exhibition. A shark, finless, destabilised, dying becomes a receptacle for ideas around that which destabilises us -repression, desire, and eventually loss. Cross brings this receptacle to our attention and illuminates it with silver and gold, transforming it, making it live. The shark will always be there, watching, just underneath the surface, leaving a residue of gold." - FaSa.

Exhibition Review - Thomas Demand: 'Latent Forms' Sprüth Magers, London till 19th Dec 2015.
I reach through Thomas to an empty space
that twists and moves
and makes patterns I can't get to,
a world safe within its creases. - Drenched Co
Comment: "In my opinion, Demand is interested in the crease patterns (CP) of our past- CPs in the wrappers of salient events. His origami skills helps him to recreate from pictures (complete with marks of tape) to take amazing pictures of these CPs. Now though, he has no event, just CPs of a potential event. And he takes pictures of this and makes us imagine the event thus wonderfully walking the fine line between reality, photographic reality and fiction. Fabulous!" - FaSa.

Exhibition Review - Phoebe Unwin:'Distant People and Self-Soothing Objects' Wilkinson gallery, London till 18th Dec 2015.
Phoebe chases ink into a summery shimmer
bruised by song and memory. - Drenched Co
Comment: "I adored these paintings especially the smaller works. I heard a deep hum of the hazy, the smelt, the seen and the felt summer emanating from them and I thought of the black sprayed ink catching corners, building shapes, bruising the canvas into memories. It is airbrushed immateriality." - FaSa.
